Position Overview The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is searching to hire an Account Technician I for the Fiscal Office at our LaSalle, IL Veterans’ Home.
This position serves under the direction of the Accountant Supervisor, this position will perform a variety of complex technical accounting work including the posting of financial documents and accounting information to financial books of entry and general ledgers in the accounting systems.

Job Responsibilities 30% Under general supervision, performs technical accounting work in maintaining the books for the LaSalle Veterans Home.
20% Records all stores receiving reports and issues to general ledger accounts, with subsidiary ledgers of the associated store and verifies the balance with controlling accounts each month.
15% Prepares financial statements and reports for income and expenses, and equipment purchased, monthly including reports on total balance of general ledger, and reports on appropriation for encumbrances against state appropriation funds.
10% Maintains cash balance on Home Funds and prepares reports of same as required or assigned and runs the bank located within the home.
10% Assists Home fiscal staff in maintaining a complex accounting system and preparing financial reports and statements with data utilizing a computerized accounting system involving statewide funds or grants.
10% Periodically assists with inventory counting in stores and forward areas.
5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and completion of an approved training course; OR three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the stated requirements of this classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance) One (1) year experience of office methods and procedures One (1) year experience of principles and functions of standard office accounting machines and equipment One (1) year Working of accounting techniques One (1) year experience working with state or non-state accounting procedures Conditions of Employment Requires the ability to pass a background check.
Requires the ability meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
Requires the ability pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.
Requires the ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
Requires use of agency-supplied equipment (mobile phone, laptop, etc.
).
Requires the ability attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
On-call and overtime are a condition of employment, and you may be required to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime, and may be required to work alternating weekends.
This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
