Description
The embedded tutor will work closely with faculty and staff to support student learning in a specific course or subject area.
The tutor will provide individual and small group tutoring services within the classroom or lab setting to help students achieve their academic goals.
Examples of Duties A.
Attends 6 hours of training B.
Attends and support all class meetings Support in-class activities (group work, individual study, etc.
) Model student success strategies (note taking, participating) Answer students’ questions Encourage student participation C.
Attends weekly meetings with instructor and regular meetings with the rest of embedded tutors and supervisor.
D.
Builds positive, supportive relationships with students in their assigned section E.
Emails/messages students to check in F.
Hosts review sessions, study groups, or workshops in the Student Success Center (weekly or ahead of major exams/projects) G.
Creates helpful handouts and videos Content review Study and exam preparation strategies and tips H.
Assists students with technology/software questions as applicable I.
Provides mini lessons/recaps on previous course content J.
Offers alternative methods for approaching different topics or problems K.
Explains the relevancy of course content and how it will be used in future courses or in a student’s chosen career L.
Connects students to campus resources (Counseling, campus food pantry, etc.
) M.
Keeps detailed records of student intervention activities and interactions with students in the classroom and in the Student success Center for review by the Dean, Liberal Arts and Sciences Minimum Qualifications A.
Experience teaching and/or tutoring Biology.
We are particularly interested in general Biology and Anatomy and Physiology.
B.
Recommendation from your teaching/tutoring supervisor unless you are/were a certified Biology teacher.
C.
If you are a current undergraduate student in Biology or Biology education and do not have any tutoring experience, a recommendation is needed from a Biology instructor at your institution.
Supplemental Information Hourly rate of pay is $20.
00/hr.
Working part-time up to 29 hours per week.
Particularly interested in tutors general Biology and Anatomy and Physiology.
